Kenneth Donald Rogers (August 21, 1938 – March 20, 2020) was an American singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Rogers was particularly popular with country audiences but also charted more than 120 hit singles across various music genres, and topped the country and pop album charts for more than 200 individual weeks in the United States alone. He sold over 100 million records worldwide during his lifetime, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.His fame and career spanned multiple genres: jazz, folk, pop, rock, and country. One thing I didn't know was they built a Civic Center here years ago. Not everyone was happy about them building it and when it was voted on by the city council it only passed by one vote. Kenny Rodgers was the first main act to play there. It was a huge hit and has been going fairly strong ever since. So we have Kenny Rogers to thank for getting things started on the right foot. I guess you could say building the Civic Center was a Big Gamble but it paid off for the city. You have to know when to hold the and know when to fold them.
